Highlights of the Department

  • Alice Mathew submitted a Minor Research Project titled “ Reshaping and Restructuring Governance in Karnataka”
  • Talk by Dr. Shashi Tharoor on “Colonialism has left our shores, but not our imaginations;where are we heading?”On 22nd July.Venue: DJB. This was a major highlight of the department’s activities.

  • Talk by Mr. Abhi (Alumnus of Virginia University) on “Disaster management” on 19Dec ,2017. Venue:AV-4.

  • Stress management counselling and data collection session by Nupur (researcher at Nimhans)on 5th Jan,2018. Venue Cr-30.

  • Talk by Arvind Sundarraj Kannan on Environment and the “Importance of being a Vegan”. Venue av-4.
  • Participated in the workshop on “Media and Human Rights” conducted by the National law school Bangalore on 22nd June 2017.

Internships facilitated by the department through collaborations

  1. Jannagraha- Our students volunteered with the Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy between July 25, 2017 to September 25, 2017. Their roles involved in conducting physical surveys of BMTC bus stops based on a questionnaire prepared by the project team and conducting surveys of pedestrian crossing on specific roads in the target wards.
  1. Ichangemycity- In association with our college, they held the Bengaluru Naagarikara Utsava, Celebrating Citizenship. The event highlighted projects on civic issues by budding active citizens- children who had worked on a variety of issues from getting potholes fixed to innovating on conservation methods to getting roads re-laid! It was a day filled with fun, learning, meeting fellow citizens and groups to celebrate the essence of holding the most important office in a democracy: that of the citizen!
  2. B.PAC: It was an initiative taken by the Bangalore political action committee to have a check on how women take part in being a part of the government.
