About the Conference

Till recently Public Policy was considered an area exclusively meant for government regulations, decisions and ordinances which was done behind closed doors. Today citizens who are the main stakeholders of democracy have realized that policies enacted by government affects them directly and hence they too should have their say. For political parties, politicians and public officials term limits and volatility of political careers cloud a long-term perspective to any issue which demands an effective policy. Especially in India long term policy issues lack a platform for national debate. The perspective of the public, a view that encompasses the entire economy is frequently under-represented in policy deliberations.

But this problem can be tackled if public opinion around the issue is made strong. This is where public policy plays a major role to ensure sound policies and encourage better policy ideas. The proposed international conference hosted by Department of Public Policy in association with Impact and Policy Research Institute, Delhi attempts to emphasize on the need for public policy not only in the government sector but in other sectors as well. The deliberations and discussions on the importance of effective policy making is streamlined into four sectors – Government, Corporate, Politics and Think tanks. Apart from technical sessions students also get to participate in a competition on policy formulation.
